The Tramway Tunnels In 1909, the building of tunnels started as part of a train line between Tenay and Hauteville. The work was a colossal enterprise: 18 tunnels, together measuring more than 2660 meters, were built. However, World War I interrupted this immense work and no trains ever passed through these tunnels. Today, this abandoned train line with its many tunnels survives as an unusual footpath above the Hauteville plateau, which is accessible to the adventurous tourist.
